Other Articles and Notes

I have written quite a few articles and papers that aren’t a perfect fit for this blog, that still might be of some interest to its readers.

Rocket Science

I have a Ph.D in Aerospace Engineering and do structural design of aircraft, rockets, and space vehicles for a living. Most of my professional papers can be downloaded for free from NASA’s Technical Report Server (NTRS). My Loft aerospace vehicle mesh generation program can be downloaded for free at https://software.nasa.gov/software/LAR-18704-1. If you want to take a look at the manual before downloading the software you can see that for free at https://ntrs.nasa.gov/citations/20230001772. I also gave a presentation at the AIAA SciTech conference in January 2024, where I talked about the code and three broad use cases for it. The conference paper can be read here

There are apparently people who download papers from NTRS, then try to sell copies for hundreds of dollars on Amazon and Ebay as a print-on-demand service. This may well be legal as I can’t claim copyright on my work that was paid for with your tax dollars. But because of this I have an Amazon Author Page that tries to point people to NTRS to get the free versions of the papers.

SCA

One of my other hobbies is playing with the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), which I have done since graduate school. I have two blogs for that hobby:

  • BaronLlwyd.org is my general blog with quite a few articles on how the club works and my experiences within it.
  • LearnFiore.org is a more focused blog on my Historic Martial Arts studies of Fiore’s 1409 combat system.

A couple of more tech related presentations from other sites:
